Tying Video – The Wizard

The video for the Wizard has been published.   The Wizard is the third fly in a series of Carrie Stevens flies that I am doing and the third for a fly tying class I will be teaching at FlyMasters of Indianapolis.  I chose the wizard because of it color combination as well as the fact that is has all the components of a typical Carrie Stevens streamer so it is not that difficult for someone to tie the Wizard if you are already tying other streamers such as the Allie’s Favorite (published two weeks ago).  In fact, if you compare the two the Wizard simply changed two colors of materials and you will see that is it the same as the Allie’s Favorite.  That is one of the great things about many of her streamers, if you learn the techniques for one fly you have essentially learned many.

As I mentioned this fly and the two I previously published will be flies taught in a fly tying class at FlyMasters of Indianapolis.  But they are not the end of my Carrie Stevens series.  I have a total of five more patterns that I will be publishing in the coming weeks.  I chose to do a number of her patterns because I wanted other tiers to see the similarities in her patterns.  Some have slight changes such as a tail or no tag or a tinsel body instead of floss but all are very similar to one another.  The upcoming patterns will show most of these common components and focus on the variations as well.  With one minor exception, next weeks fly.  It was chosen just because it is such a good looking fly!  So keep an eye out for more Carrie Stevens flies and then some Steelhead streamers in December.
