Tying Video – Carrie Stevens Doctor Gray

The Doctor Gray is almost identical to another fly Carrie Stevens tied call the Doctor White. In fact they are both identical except the wing hackle is White in the Doctor White and Gray in the (you guessed it) Doctor Gray. I did find out that the Doctor Gray was named after a fishing friend she had who was Doctor Gray. Who he was exactly I have not been able to find out.

I mostly chose the Doctor Gray because of the bright colors in the throat and collar. They seem to stand out even more against the gray background of the wing. I thought it was a lovely fly and it did turn out to be a lot of fun to tie.  As noted in other videos, the Doctor Gray has many of the same components and tying techniques as many of the other Carrie Stevens flies that I have been tying.  In this case, there is only a shoulder of Jungle Cock body feather and no Jungle Cock eye cheek.  The Doctor Gray also has a collar on it which many of her patterns do not have a collar.  All in all, a little different than some of her other flies.

I have one more Carrie Stevens patterns next week and it is The Lady Killer.  Another fun pattern and great example of the wonderful streamers that Carrie Stevens is so well known for.  I also have one other “special” streamer later in December.  Not a Carrie Stevens but one in that style.  Keep an eye out for it.
