Bonefish Fly Tying Class

Heads up to all those who like the Salt Life, this Saturday at FlyMasters I will be teaching a class on Bonefish Flies for the Caribbean.  Three shrimpy patterns that are proven producers. All are simple ties and do not require much in the way of materials or skills to quickly fill a fly box.  If you are lucky enough to be headed to the Bahamas or some other warm destination for some Bonefish and maybe permit these flies will be just what you need.

The class will be at FlyMasters of Indianapolis on Saturday the 15th of February.  We will start at 1:00 p.m. and wrap up about 4:00 p.m..  The three patterns in this class do not take long to tie so we might end up with some extra time.  If that is the case we will tie up one of the patterns again but add in some extras to show how the flies can be modified for various fishing conditions.  As always, we will be talking about tying these flies, other bonefish flies and fishing these patterns.

All materials for the class will be provided but each tier will need to bring a few items of their own for the class.

  • Fly Tying Vise
  • Thread, UTC 140 denier (or 210) Tan
  • Head cement
  • Dubbing wax
  • Sharp Scissors
  • Bring a camera or smart phone for taking photos and a pen for taking notes

The cost of the class is $35.00 and as mentioned includes all materials as well as a handout with the recopies of the flies and Internet links to videos and  written instruction (if available) to help tiers when they are home at their own vise after the class.  With cold weather forecast for the weekend it is a great time to get out of the house, tie some flies and talk warm salty destinations.  See you Saturday!
