General Announcement #1

Although making fly tying videos is fun and very interesting learning about videography and publishing content, there are times it can be frustrating.  I am in the middle of one of those times right now.  I recently recorded the Bradshaw’s Fancy but when I started editing the footage I notice a large number of dust spots in the video.  Usually one or two and be dealt with but this was a large number.  I use a Nikon D7100 DSLR camera with a Nikkor 65mm Macro lens for my recordings.  Naturally, I cleaned the lens and started a second take.  No change, so I figured it was on the camera sensor.  I cleaned it (three times) and still no change.  So I figured I just wasn’t cleaning it right.  Then take it to the professionals, which I did and had them clean it.

Now these things happen and I can get by with my 50mm lens and some post production work but this has brought up the idea that maybe it is time to upgrade my equipment.  The D7100 came out in 2012 and while it will record HD it does not do 4k.  So, the question  is what to upgrade to? This post, and the video I released to go along with it, are to pose this question to you, my followers.  Before pulling the trigger on a new rig I am looking for some input from people about what they use and what they like.  Even if you do not record “how to” videos, even if it is just a camera that you use for family vacations, if you like it I am interested.  You can leave a comment below or in the comment section of the video if you would like to share your thoughts.  I did manage to get the Bradshaw’s Fancy recorded and it will be coming out this Sunday.

I also wanted to let everyone know that I have started a home on SubscribeStar.  SubscribeStar is similar to Patreon.  I am planning on adding some extra content on SubscribeStar including some fishing content as the season unfolds.  The general idea is that you can subscribe to me on SubscribeStar and gain access to the additional content.  Not 100% certain how it will all come together.  I am open to suggestions concerning additional content and what people would like to see or learn.  A big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me so far.  I receive lots of nice compliments and suggestions from fellow fly tiers and fly fishers.  I will keep you up to date on the camera situation as well as new developments on SubscribeStar.

If you haven’t yet, sign up for the weekly newsletter to stay up to date on Dressed Irons as well as receiving more details about this upcoming class.  The sign up form is on the right of this page!

As always, if you have any questions about this fly (or any other) you can leave a comment on Dressed Irons or any of the videos I have produced and I will help in anyway I can. Enjoy!

Remember….. It’s Fly tying….. If you’re not having fun, You’re Doin’ It Wrong.
