Upcoming MidWest Fly Fishing Shows

Although it may seem like the only thing to do (fishing-wise) during the winter is clean your gear and tie some flies there actually is a lot going on to keep that “gotta get on the water” itch at bay.  Usually around the entire country but certainly here in the Midwest there are a number of fly fishing and fly tying shows going on throughout January and February to keep the passion alive.  All of these shows have been around for a number of years, some going on 16 plus years.  I have attended many of them and even tied a few flies at a few.  Often my winter months are busier than my summer months so I don’y always get myself together enough to tie at these shows or sometimes even attend them.  However, this year I am making it a priority to attend (if not tie at) as many shows as I can. There are four shows on my radar at this time and one I will be tying and selling flies at.  Below is a breakdown of the various shows.

2022 TRFF Fly Show Flyer-Final January 15 & 16 – The Heartland Fly Fishing Festival
I will only be attending this show on January 15th.  I should be milling around the show from about 12:00pm until about 3:00pm.  Maybe earlier but probably not later as I have to be somewhere else in the evening.  This show has been going on for over five years, possible seven if my old memory banks are still working.  It is hosted by Project Healing Waters and located at the Boone County 4H Fairgrounds in Lebanon Indiana, right of I-65.  They have a lot of tiers lined up as well as a number of key speakers and smaller seminars going on.  There is a casting pond and a number of vendors with some of the latest gear.  As one of the first shows in the area they usually have a good turn out.  Worth spending a few hours if you can get away.  Head over to their website for more details.

January 29th – Kentuckiana Fly Fishing Show
The Derby City Fly Fishers have been hosting this show for the past 16 years!  It is only a one day show so you need to plan ahead to make certain you have all the time you need to see the vendors, casters, tiers and seminars.  This one is located at the Paroquet Springs Conference Center in Shepherdsville, Ky.  This one I will also be just attending.  I am planning on getting there around 11:00am and staying until 4:00pm.  Another show worth attending if you have a need to get out of the house (or not).  You can take a look at their website for all the details.

February 5th – Greater Cincinnati Fly Fishing Show
This show also have been around for many many years, 2022 marks their 33rd show. This show is hosted by the Buckeye United Fly Fishers.  This is also a one day event so plan on getting there early and staying late.  The show is located at the Oasis Conference Center in Loveland, OH.  I know from past experience and a number of guides in the Midwest that is a favorite show every year.  Lots of activities, tiers, seminars, vendors and more.  I will only be attending this show but am planning on getting there around 11:00am and staying the day.  You can head over to their website or download the show flyer to read all the details.

February 12th – Fort Wayne Fly Fishing Show
The Fort Wayne Fly Fishing show has been hosted by the Three Rivers Fly Fishers for the past 10 years.  I have tied at this show on a number of occupations and will be tying again this year.  It is only a one day show but it is packed full of seminars, vendors, tiers and activities to more than scratch your fishing itch.  I will be at the show all day and not only tying flies but selling many of the patterns I have done videos on.  The show is located at the Classic Cafe in Fort Wayne, IN but you can read all the details and plan your day by visiting their website to see everything that is happening at the show. You can also download a copy of the show flier here.

So that is a quick rundown on a few of the shows in the Midwest that are coming up.  If you happen to know of any other shows (possibly new ones I am not aware of) let me know.  I will keep my followers up to day and add them to the list.  Hope to see you at one of the shows and don’t be shy on introducing yourself
