Tying Video – The Little Brown Trout

The latest fly tying video is out and it is the Little Brown Trout.  This also is from Mike Valla’s book on Bucktail streamers and it is the second fly for an upcoming class I will be teaching on Bucktail Streamers on September 14th at FlyMasters of Indianapolis.  The Little Brown Trout is a very interesting fly as there are a couple of steps in the process of tying this fly that present a bit of a challenge.  Not that they are difficult but rather I found a lack of information and therefore had to improvise.  That is to say, I had to draw on my vast knowledge and experience to “guess” and see what happens!

I have two more bucktail streamer fly videos in the next two weeks.  One more fly is for the upcoming class and then there is a bonus fly that will not be taught in the class but I will hand out a recipe sheet for and discuss in the class.  All of these flies were taken from the book by Mike Valla, Tying & Fishing Bucktails and Other Hair Wings.  If you enjoy these more “traditional” streamers this is a wonderful book that does a great job of explaining how these flies are put together, fished as well as their history.  Plus, you can attend the class and get some hands on learning on tying these flies.  They are fun to tie as well as fish and they give you a sense of keeping in touch with the past (a little bit).

As always, if you have any questions about this fly (or any other) you can leave a comment on Dressed Irons or any of the videos I have produced and I will help in anyway I can.   Enjoy!

Remember…..  It’s Fly tying…..  If you’re not having fun, You’re Doin’ It Wrong.
